Muizenberg is considered to be the birthplace of surfing in South Africa, centered around the popular “Surfer’s Corner”, and boasting of beautiful ocean views. Muizenberg is also know for its colorful beach huts on our white sand beaches.

Beautiful Places / Things To Do:

  • Go up to Boyes Drive which overlooks the city and easy drive to avoid Main Rd.

  • Walk on the beach — sometimes it can be dangerous, so be cautious- don’t walk past the colored houses, or ever when there aren’t lots of people around

  • Walk the boardwalk — sometimes it can be dangerous, so be cautious- don’t walk past Put Put

  • Park past the traffic circle downtown Muiz its a great spot to watch the waves

  • Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve — perfect place for an evening walk to watch the sun go down, or sit on the beach. Sometimes there are Flamingos, Egyptian Geese, Ibis, or Heron.

  • Put Put (mini golf) — between Beach Rd. & the boardwalk

  • Charity Shops — Hidden Treasures (next to Checkers, helps to sponsor our Impact Ministry Bethesda House), unnamed one on the walk from town towards Stoked Backpackers

  • Surfing — lessons are available for hire in some of the beach front shops- or a local YWAMer, Beau gives lessons (has done so for many years, including a wetsuit and board rental) +27 (84) 390-7770

  • Collectables Cafe — across from Stoked Backpackers, antiques and a cafe with milkshakes

  • The Hive (in the Village) — great place to find out what’s happening in the village with posting for gigs, parties, and all kinds of local events

  • Joon — favorite gathering place for locals and they serve great pizza- they also have a great back patio / garden

    • Second Thursday of the Month (7:30 pm) open mic poetry 

  • Hang out at The Commons — which is a Cafe + Vinyl, Book Store + Bar + Studio + Workshop with live Music

  • Thursday + Friday Nights (4-9 pm) Blue Bird Garage — a vibey food market. They have clothes, jewelry and fresh vegetables for sale as well. A great gathering places for locals! We love their steak salad board food stand, and they also carry affordable flowers and produce. Kid and pet friendly

  • Sundays (8 am - 4pm): Muizenberg Flea Market at Sunrise Circle- you can pick up South African souvenirs and affordable homeware

  • Muizenberg Festival — happens every few months with great live bands and food stalls for a cheap prices- seeing Beatenburg is fun

Restaurants:

  • Nearby Generator Food Places (during load shedding) — Harvest Cafe & Deli, Lagerchinos, Tigers Milk

  • Tigers Milk — $10 steak, great truffle fries and pizza’s

  • Live Bait — great view overlooking the ocean pretty affordable for sushi

  • Kauai (download their app for free smoothies!)

  • Knead Bakery — favorite things are their quinoa salad (with chicken and avo, replace beetroot with butternut squash), double chocolate chip cookies, and nutella hot chocolate)

  • Lucky Fish — fish and chips, Gatsby’s or bunny chow- very cheap. You can eat there or take away to sit by the sea 

  • Other Options — Easy Tiger (American), Primi Piatti (“Italian”), Bombay Chili (Indian)

  • Roman’s Pizza (Capricorn Square)— the best local delivery or take away thick crust pizza

Breakfast / Snacks:

  • Early bird coffee — R14 Knead Bakery (before 8 am), R18 Bootlegger (before 8:30 am),  R15, R10 Xpression Cafe with your own cup (before 10 am)

  • Kosies Place — has the cheapest breakfast, they love to bless YWAMers with prayer — on the corner of Clevedon and Alexander Road 

  • Bootlegger — dipped ice cream cones, coconut hot chocolate

  • Empire Cafe — outside area overlooking the Bay, great place for coffee and delectable nibbles

  • Harvest Cafe & Deli — coffee shop

  • Hans Lloyd Coffee Co — a brand new coffee shop where Gaslight Cafe used to be

  • Sunrise Sessions at Dr. Phil-Afel — plant powered breakfasts + smoothies

  • Knead Bakery — best pastries (their lattes- turmeric and beetroot and matcha are really great as well)

  • Xpression Cafe — great acai bowls, bagels and coffee in a cone

  • Tigers Milk — has some R39 breakfast, R49 with coffee

  • Joon (in the Village) — great woodfire pizzas and outdoor seating

  • Casa Labia — just a little walk beyond Muizenberg station- an art gallery, restaurant and tea shop where you can get a light coffee or meal in a beautiful venue

  • The Real Bread — hole in the wall bakery with the best local fresh bread (recommendation from our European friends)

  • Sobeit Studio — quirky sushi + cocktail + pastry shop. They have Truth Coffee on tap
