Check in with Your Medical Cover (if you have it) about what will be, or won’t be, covered, so you are prepared:
Know and list your medical scheme name, plan type (for example, a hospital plan or a saver plan), your membership number and call centre telephone number. This may be required for pre-authorisation or additional information about networks, hospitals, ambulance services, doctors, pharmacies and medicines. (more things to have prepared in the above link)
Before you go to a clinic or hospital— there is a Free Doctor Hotline Open in South Africa:
This new service has been dubbed ‘HelloDoctor’ and is available 24 hours a day, any day of the week, in all official languages spoken in South Africa. The service does not require data or airtime, and connects those in need of medical advice with healthcare professionals at no charge. This not only ensures that medical advice is readily available to residents during the lockdown but also helps medical practitioners tend to patients without worries of infection.
If you find yourself or anyone at your household in need of medical advice simply dial *120*394# on your cellular device and follow the menu prompts. Shortly after you have completed this process, a doctor will call you back and provide feedback on your query based on information you have given. This service can be used anytime of the day and will provide assistance to those with medical queries throughout the lockdown period.
After dialing, you’ll be connected with a COVID-19 risk assessment tool, and the outcome of the assessment triggers a doctor callback request for high risk individuals, or in the case of low risk individuals, a list of educational COVID-19 FAQ’s.
